In Kampa Museum, there will be lectures on visual art

Prague - The Education Department of the Kampa Museum has prepared a new series of lectures, discussions, and films to introduce Czech modern art to the general public. The first part of the series will be opened tonight by a lecture by curator Jiří Machalický on Group 42. The lectures will be held every two weeks until June, and then continue from September to December.
    "The series loosely follows the artworks from the collection of Jan and Meda Mládková and maps selected chapters from the history of post-war art in Czech cultural and historical contexts," said Karina Kottová from the Kampa Museum to ČTK. Well-known artists and art theorists will also be invited to each session.
    Machalický will enrich the lectures with visual presentations and examples of works from the Kampa Museum's depositary, which are not normally accessible to the public, and will also include screenings of documentary films by director Petr Skala.
    The first meeting starts with Group 42, which determined the development of Czech post-war art. One of its members was poet and artist Jiří Kolář, who is represented in the gallery by an extensive collection. "The second lecture will focus on informal art, which developed in the Czech Republic somewhat later than in Europe but has its unique character stemming from a specific social, cultural, and political situation," Kottová added.
    Further lectures will address experimental art of the 1960s or the groups Křižovatka and Nová citlivost, visual poetry, and artistic movements of lettrism, minimalism, and the UB 12 group. Documentaries about the group Zaostalí, photographer and artist Běla Kolářová, and painter, graphic artist, and sculptor Stanislav Kolíbal will also be screened.
