3rd year of the international festival of dance improvisation focusing on movement in the city and the dance interpretation of architectural space

MYRIAM LEFKOWITZ / JULIE LAPORTE / JEAN-PHILIPPE DERAIL (FR)

The theme of this year's RECOMPOSE THE EXPERIENCE festival is the transformation of experiencing urban space through a changed state of attention. During an intensive workshop led by French instructors MYRIAM LEFKOWITZ, JULIE LAPORTE, and JEAN-PHILIPPE DERAIL, we will explore techniques for inducing heightened sensory sensitivity that will enable a different experience of the city.

The workshop is intended for all interested parties who want to explore specific bodily experiences in relation to space and the city, including dancers, dance and performing arts students, architects, visual artists, amateur dance lovers, and people engaged in various somatic practices.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:

Each day of the workshop will be divided into three "chapters": morning work in the studio, afternoon work in urban space, and evening practice in an indoor space. The entire workshop will also be monitored and recorded by a camera, which will not simply observe the events "from the outside" from the position of a mere spectator, but "from the inside" as an integral part of the collective process.

Morning chapter: Authentic Movement technique and other exercises aimed at awakening the senses. Departing from established forms of representation (of the body, space, other people) and deepening sensory experience to achieve a state of greater permeability of one's body in relation to the environment.

Afternoon chapter: Sensory "reading" of the city. A dialogue between the specific bodily state induced by morning practices and various locations within Brno. Improvisation in outdoor spaces; single image score as a tool for exploring and experiencing selected places.

Evening chapter: Ending the day by returning to one's own body. Perception of the multi-dimensionality of space with closed eyes.
