Zlin - The Zlin Region will allocate seven million crowns for the ongoing repairs of the castle in Zlin-Malenovice. This was announced to journalists today by Governor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL). The castle has been closed for repairs since autumn 2016 until June of this year. The site is managed by the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlin, which is a regional contribution organization.
"As part of the approved investment plan, there will be a complete replacement of the shingle roofing and the connecting bridge in the outer courtyard, repairs of the chimney, and renovation of the staircase. The castle itself will undergo repairs and replacement of damaged windows and lighting in a total of six rooms," Čunek stated. Next year, the project will be prepared, and construction work is scheduled from April to December 2020.
During the previous reconstruction, the destabilized structure of the castle was addressed, including transverse and longitudinal reinforcement of the building with steel cables, drainage of the courtyard, and facade repairs. The Zlin Region allocated 21 million to the museum for the repair of the castle.
The castle was probably founded by the Moravian Margrave John Henry, the younger brother of Charles IV, after 1360. In the following centuries, Gothic and Renaissance reconstructions were made at the castle. The current appearance of Malenovice was acquired through Baroque modifications under the ownership of the Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn family.
