Zlín - The Zlín Region will allocate 21 million crowns for the repair of the castle in Zlín-Malenovice. The castle needs to be statically secured, said governor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. The castle is managed by the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín, which is a contribution organization of the region.

Repairs should begin in the spring and will continue into the following year. The castle closed to the public last autumn, and the relocation of exhibitions to storage spaces began. Experts found that the rocky foundation is fine, but the walls are separating, said councilor Jan Pijáček (ODS) to ČTK.

The reconstruction will include strengthening the walls and unifying the colors of the facade. The building will be drained, and restorers will make minor adjustments to the interiors of the castle, said the region's spokeswoman Renata Janečková.

In recent years, more and more people have been visiting the castle; almost 20,000 visitors came last year. The castle was likely founded by the Moravian margrave John Henry, the younger brother of Charles IV, after 1360. In the following centuries, Gothic and Renaissance renovations were carried out. The current appearance of Malenovice was shaped by Baroque modifications under the ownership of the Liechtenstein-Kastelkorns.
