Castle in Zlín-Malenovice awaits renovation

Zlín - The castle in Zlín-Malenovice is awaiting structural repairs, so in September the guided tours will be limited. Starting next week, the zoological exhibition "Animals on Earth and Man" will be closed, said Barbora Janečková, a collaborator from the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín, which manages the castle. The castle will be closed from October until spring 2018.

"Due to the work schedule, we must close the zoological exhibition on Monday, September 5, before the relocation. The guided tour circuit of the castle will remain operational, and the baroque hunting lodge in the forecourt with exhibitions and the "Painted on Glass" exhibition will also be open," said museum employee Milena Dvořáková.

"From October 3, the entire castle and the hunting lodge will be closed, and all exhibitions will be gradually relocated from the castle to alternative storage spaces," Dvořáková said. Construction work on the static stabilization of the historic building is planned from January to April 2018. After that, the guided tours and exhibition displays will be restored.

"We will inform the public in a timely manner about any special events taking place until the end of this year," Dvořáková stated. According to her, it is not excluded that the traditional Christmas market may be held in the castle courtyard this year.

In recent years, the castle has seen an increasing number of visitors, with nearly 20,000 people visiting it last year. The castle was likely founded by the Moravian margrave John Henry, the younger brother of Charles IV, after 1360. Over the centuries, Gothic and Renaissance renovations were carried out. The current appearance of Malenovice was shaped by baroque modifications under the owners Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn.
