Zlín - The oldest building of the spa in Zlín, which is a protected monument, is likely to undergo extensive renovation. The city has prepared a project to seek funding from the European Union. The estimated costs are approximately 50 million crowns. This was stated by Mayor Irena Ondrová today.
The building with a 25-meter swimming pool was constructed in 1952, and the architect is Vladimír Karfík. "We primarily want to repair the outer shell and some internal elements. Since this is a protected monument, we do not plan any alterations to the layout or structure," said the mayor.
The start date of the construction depends on the city's success in obtaining a grant that will cover a larger part of the costs. At the same time, the city is also preparing some smaller repairs. Next year, the entrance hall and some parts of the interior could be repaired, with costs amounting to approximately 850,000 crowns.
The winter spa was built on the site of a former brick factory of the Baťa company. The pool is located on a floor that has a gallery for spectators. The building was realized using universal formwork adapted from industrial constructions. In 1984, the area was supplemented by a building with a larger pool, and a summer swimming pool was also created there.
