Žďár nad Sázavou - The town hall in Žďár nad Sázavou is considering the construction of a building with 36 apartments, which it would not sell but only rent out. The so-called apartment buildings have not been constructed by the city for over ten years, and most of the older extensive apartment stock has been privatized. The town hall would proceed with the construction of a new building if it obtained a grant for it, said deputy mayor Josef Klement (KDU-ČSL) to journalists today. "The city is lacking municipal apartments," he stated. Among the approximately 600 housing units in the city's ownership are included houses with care services. The rented apartments are only one-room, yet there is great interest in them. The newly planned apartments are to be somewhat larger, with an area between 50 and 60 square meters, which could be suitable, for example, as starter housing for young families.
For the new apartment building, the city has land on Sázavská Street in the expanding Klafar housing estate. According to initial estimates, the construction would cost 55 million crowns. Besides 24 standard rental apartments, the building should have 12 apartments for people or families who find themselves in difficult life situations. "Such as divorce, death, or illness," the deputy mayor explained. In these apartments, tenants would receive contracts for a maximum of two years.
The town hall expects that support for these 12 apartments will be possible to apply for next year under the IROP program. Part of the funds to cover the remaining costs could be obtained by the city, for example, in the form of prepaid rents; commercial spaces could also be rented on the ground floor of the building.
The construction of additional apartments in the city should be handled by individual builders and developers. In the Klafar area, the city is now offering plots for 26 row houses and four apartment buildings. Previously, there was a shortage of plots in the city, and people purchased them in surrounding municipalities. According to statistics, Žďár nad Sázavou has lost over 2,600 residents in the past ten years, and now 21,000 people live there.
