Brno - The Brno municipality has launched the website Sculptural Brno, which maps both historical and new sculptures, memorials, commemorative plaques, reliefs, and other small sculptural elements in the city's streets. The website was created by employees of the Department of Culture and the GIS Department of the City Informatics Department of the City of Brno. The municipality informed about it in a press release.

The name of the website was inspired by the book Sculptural Brno 1989-2019, published last year by Masaryk University. "Currently, the GIS map on the website records about 700 objects from roughly the 18th century to the present, including realizations as part of the project Sculptures for Brno. If people happen to come across an object not included in the map, they should not hesitate to reach out, and the staff of the Department of Culture will include it in the registry," said the councilor for culture, Marek Fišer (Pirates).

In the map, individual works can be searched by type, city district, or author. Some works can be viewed in 3D. The website is also intended as a source of information for artists, who will find information about sculptural competitions and how to apply. "They will find the assignment conditions and the composition of the evaluation committee here. This is another step not only towards clarity but also towards the transparency of the entire process," added Fišer.

New sculptures are expected to continue to be added to the city's streets, for example, as part of the Sculptures for Brno project. Their creation is prompted by the public or institutions, and the sculptures are meant to commemorate significant personalities, events, or anniversaries. In the future, sculptures of Blessed Marie Restituta Kafka in Husovice, Gregor Johann Mendel in Mendel Square, or Kurt Friedrich Gödel on Pekařská Street are expected to be created.
