České Budějovice - The Technical and Economic University (VŠTE) in České Budějovice is preparing to expand and modernize its campus on Okružní Street, where it is located. The aim of the investment, worth tens of millions of crowns, is to create a new environment for students and a conference center over the next few years. The current facilities of the school will also be modernized, said Ivana Kerlesová from the Communication Agency today.

Initially, a multi-story building will be constructed, where the majority of teaching will gradually be concentrated. "In the first phase, we want to build a completely new campus next to the existing buildings, which will supplement the missing background of the school. The campus will include two lecture halls for a hundred students, which we currently lack, as well as laboratories, a library, central changing rooms, an atrium for hosting exhibition events, and a conference center," said Petra Bednářová from VŠTE.
In the next phase, there are plans to build an elevator and staircase in the areas currently used for student accommodation, which also serve as an evacuation building for the South Bohemian Region. The next stage includes the construction of a student club and restaurant near the current gymnasium, which should also be open to the public.
The school's management wants to start the reconstruction as soon as it acquires at least part of the land in the Okružní Street campus into its ownership. Currently, the land belongs to the South Bohemian Region, and the school is merely a tenant. The school estimates the costs of modernization at several tens of millions of crowns, and it will seek funding from European Union programs.
The Technical and Economic University is the youngest public university in the Czech Republic. It was established this January, and from the autumn, 356 students will attend the three-year bachelor's program in Economics and Management, Kerlesová specified.
At the same time, the school has applied for accreditation of study programs focused on construction. In cooperation with the Czech Technical University in Prague, it is preparing joint teaching for the bachelor's program in Civil Engineering starting in October. The establishment of a detached workplace in Budějovice still requires approval from the accreditation committee, which will decide in the second half of September.
