České Budějovice - The Technical and Economic University in České Budějovice (VŠTE) intends to build a new dormitory for 300 students. The project's costs will reach tens of millions of crowns. Construction is set to start in the spring of next year. Last year, VŠTE acquired approximately 11,000 square meters of land around the school. Zdeněk Zuntych, the media representative of VŠTE, stated this to ČTK. The school currently has 54 beds available for students.
"It was an opportunity, a strategic investment that we took advantage of," said the school rector Marek Vochozka about the land purchase. The new dormitory was initially supposed to be built in another location. However, the VŠTE management decided that the building would be constructed on the newly acquired land. "Although this delayed everything by about a year, we want the planned buildings to meaningfully complement the area and create a pleasant urban complex where vibrant academic life will thrive," he added. The dormitory is expected to include amenities such as a fitness center and a café.
VŠTE has also completed preparations for the construction of the second phase of the central laboratories. This is expected to commence by 2020. Another planned investment concerns the educational and laboratory facilities for the Institute of Expertise and Valuation, which anticipates its own accreditation for a follow-up master's program in the future. Overall, the costs for all projects will amount to tens of millions of crowns. "We are trying to secure part of the funding from European Union programs, but we primarily rely on our own resources, resulting from the good, efficient management of the school," said VŠTE bursar Jaromír Vrbka.
VŠTE, which is part of the network of public universities, has approximately 4,400 students enrolled in regular and combined forms of study.
