Brno - The laying of the foundation stone today marked the beginning of the construction of a new home for seniors in Újezd near Brno. It will cost around 175 million crowns, said Denisa Kapitančiková, spokesperson for the South Moravian Region, to ČTK. The home will have a capacity of 100 users and will create jobs for approximately 70 employees. According to the governor's deputy Marek Šlapal (ČSSD), the building should be completed by the end of next year.

The construction of the home is the largest investment in this year's regional budget. The region has a budget of 5.8 billion crowns for this year. To finance the home, the region will use funds from a loan framework agreed upon with the European Investment Bank. "The South Moravian Region has long been investing in social facilities. This is already the fourth entirely new home for seniors to be established in the region in the past five years," said governor Michal Hašek (ČSSD).
He added that the region would want to use European funds in the future to expand existing facilities. "We want to focus particularly on beds for patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. In cooperation with cities and municipalities, we will want to invest in sheltered or social housing," Hašek said.
The newly built home in Újezd near Brno will provide social services as a home for seniors and a home with a special regime. The building will have two four-story blocks connected by a corridor and topped with gable roofs. "The home will offer a capacity for 100 users, who will be accommodated in 66 single and double rooms with their own sanitary facilities," Kapitančiková stated. According to her, the capacity could be increased to accommodate 115 users. "Due to the shortage of places in homes for seniors in Brno and the region, we expect high interest," Šlapal added.
According to Hašek, there are other locations where construction is ready. "This concerns, for example, Bučovice, Ivančice, or the municipality of Miroslav. The facility in Újezd will be primarily intended for users from the Brno area and also from Hodonín," he added.
