OSTRAVA - The parking of cars in the parking garage, which was opened today near the train station in Ostrava-Svinov, is managed by a computer. Vehicles are transported to their respective parking spots by an automatic platform, and the driver doesn’t have to worry about anything. The facility was built by the Czech company KOMA according to its own patent for 55 million crowns, said its representative Gustav Kotalík to ČTK.
"There are about five systems of automatic parking garages operating in the world; ours is based on a completely new rotary movement of pallets. This minimizes the space required for a single parking spot," Kotalík stated.
Along with his company, the construction was financed by the companies Strojírny Třinec and Eltodo EG. According to Kotalík, automated parking garages are becoming increasingly popular worldwide, saving space in urban centers. Their advantages also include ecological parameters; the automatic system results in fuel savings and reduced exhaust emissions.
"Companies from all over the country and abroad visit us for inquiries. We are considering building garages in other cities as well, and we are currently exploring the possibility of support from European Union funds," said Kotalík.
The capacity of the five-story parking garage is 105 cars, and it can be operated by a single person. The hourly rate for parking is 20 crowns, and for parking longer than seven hours, there is a permanent pass for 150 crowns. KOMA currently operates the garage independently, but in the future, the city may take care of it.
