Hradec Králové - In Hradec Králové, construction of a new bus station has begun in recent days. The construction company Strabag, as the winner of the tender, has taken over the construction site and started work. Josef Malíř, the deputy mayor of Hradec Králové, said this to ČTK today. The city currently does not have a classic bus station. Buses depart from temporary stands near the train station and from a nearby panel area. The actual bus terminal should be completed by the end of August next year. Part of the investment of nearly 400 million crowns includes the subsequent reconstruction of the neighboring Riegrovo Square near the Czech Railways station for public transport needs. Everything should be completed by autumn 2008. For the construction of the bus terminal, the city has received a grant of 62 million crowns from European Union funds. The construction of the station is one of the main priorities of the city hall and is also one of the largest investments in the city's modern history. The procurement process for the construction contractor was complicated and took place twice. The original tender was won last October by a consortium of companies led by OHL ŽS with a price of 437 million crowns. However, Skanska, which also applied for the contract and ended up in second place with a price of 459 million crowns, appealed the result to the Office for the Protection of Competition. The antimonopoly office then ordered the competition to be canceled, and the city reissued the tender.
