Ústí nad Orlicí - Ústí nad Orlicí will begin the long-delayed revitalization of the center of the urban conservation area. The planned connection of Kostelní Street with Husova Street will allow passage from Mírové Square to Roškotovo Theatre through the old cemetery adjacent to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The church is currently not accessible to the public. The construction work will cost nearly six million crowns, stated Karina Habrová from the city secretary's office.
In addition to barrier-free connections between the streets, the town hall also plans to install municipal furniture, establish public lighting and festive illumination, modify public greenery, and build reservoirs for rainwater for an irrigation system. A meditation area will also be created, stone tombstones will be restored, and the area for occasional parking will be reinforced.
The construction will start in August and be completed in April next year. The town hall tried to obtain a grant for the revitalization, but was unsuccessful with both Norwegian funds and the Interreg cross-border cooperation program. Eventually, the necessary amount was included in the city's budget.
A separate project is the reconstruction of the cemetery chapel, which is being handled by the Roman Catholic parish itself. The cost of the renovation reaches 1.3 million crowns, and a public collection is currently being organized for it. The city will contribute nearly half a million crowns, most of the funds were obtained from the program for the Regeneration of Urban Heritage Reservations and Zones.
