<UOHS> canceled the fine of 300,000 crowns for <Vysoké učení technické>

Brno - The chairman of the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) Petr Rafaj annulled the fine of 300,000 crowns that his subordinates imposed on the Brno University of Technology two years ago for incorrect annexes to the contract for the reconstruction of the Faculty of Civil Engineering premises. In the new proceedings, Rafaj took into account the changes in the Public Procurement Act, which are more favorable for VUT, as reported by ČTK from the office's website.

The antitrust office originally objected to the annexes to contracts concluded with the consortium of companies Metrostav and Unistav. They were awarded without a competition and according to the office, they did not involve construction work that the school could not foresee in advance.

However, since the work accounted for roughly one percent of the total original contract, VUT will not have to pay the fine. The ÚOHS considered changes to the Public Procurement Act, which altered the limit for similar cases. The work according to the annexes, which the ÚOHS addressed, cost the school more than four million crowns.

The office's decision is final. It concerned the premises of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Brno on Veveří and Žižkov streets. The Brno University of Technology was renovating the premises in 2011 and 2012.
