Hradec Králové - The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) will begin construction of the third pavilion of its university campus at Na soutoku next year. The construction of the building will cost approximately 430 million crowns and will serve the Faculty of Science of UHK. UHK Chancellor Ondřej Tikovský said this to ČTK today. "We expect that the winning company will start work in early spring 2014. The construction will take about a year and a half and will be followed by the internal equipping, especially of specialized laboratories," Tikovský said. The new building will include, for example, a toxicology laboratory where specialists will focus on the research of mycotoxins. Tikovský indicated that UHK does not plan to increase the number of students due to demographic decline, and the new building will allow the university to gradually vacate some premises in the city that the school rents or that are unsuitable. In the Na soutoku area opposite the Hradec Králové Faculty Hospital, the Joint Teaching Facility began operating in 1997. In 2008, the construction of a new building for the Faculty of Informatics and Management was completed. The university also plans to build a sports complex in the campus, which should serve both higher education institutions and the public. UHK also plans to start repairs on the facades of historically significant buildings in náměstí Svobody this year, which the school acquired from the city several years ago. The school will pay approximately 70 million crowns for the repairs of windows, facades, and artistic elements of both buildings. In Hradec Králové, construction of the first building of the new campus of Charles University (UK) also began last October. The construction of the Teaching and Research Center of UK will cost approximately 420 million crowns. The progress of further construction in the UK campus area will depend on funding.
