Karlovy Vary - A unique lookout tower on Klínovec, the highest peak of the Ore Mountains, will be successfully saved with money from the European Union. The project for its reconstruction was approved today by the monitoring committee of the Cross-Border Cooperation Program Objective 3 Czech Republic - Free State of Saxony, with Boží Dar and Loučná pod Klínovcem receiving 1.6 million euros (approximately 41.3 million crowns) for the project. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Karlovy Vary Region, Jana Pavlíková.

The reconstruction of the lookout tower is part of the project for Facilities and Infrastructure for Tourism in the Central Ore Mountains area. It will receive a grant from the European Regional Development Fund totaling 2.6 million euros (around 67 million crowns). It is expected to be completed in 2013.
The octagonal pyramidal lookout tower on Klínovec will be completely disassembled. On a new base, the tower will be reassembled from the original stone and wooden elements, possibly supplemented with new material. “I am glad that we managed to secure financing for the project, as the newly renovated lookout tower will be an attractive tourist destination for both our and foreign tourists,” noted Deputy Governor Petr Navrátil.
