Boží Dar (Karlovy Vary) - Two new cable cars are being constructed at Klínovec in the Krušné mountains, which will strengthen the transport capacity of the ski area. The first four-seater cable car at the Přemostěná slope will be completed by winter. Today, the key phase of the project began, the construction of the supporting masts. A helicopter was used to set them in place. The second cable car will run along the southern side of Klínovec and will be finished a year later. The construction of the cable cars will exceed 200 million crowns. This was announced by the spokesperson of the area, Adam Svačina. The helicopter was supposed to arrive from Slovakia around three in the afternoon. However, due to storms along the route, it arrived three hours later. Nevertheless, the well-coordinated assembly teams managed to secure the masts to the foundations before dusk. This was done at three locations that could only be accessed by helicopter. The action was complicated by the wind, which began to pick up in the evening. On Thursday, the helicopter will transport concrete to the construction site of the second slope. The foundations for the masts should also be completed here by Friday. The cable car at the Přemostěná slope will have its boarding station at the same location as the old drag lift, but the exit station will noticeably shift higher, thus gaining additional meters of slope. The Doppelmayr cable car will have a capacity of 2400 people per hour. The Přemostěná slope will also be widened. "We will also purchase additional snow guns, and artificial snowmaking on the northern slopes will be nearly one hundred percent. A helicopter is necessary for the construction because heavy machinery cannot access the steep slopes," said Svačina. At the same time, construction continues on the second cable car leading to Jáchymov. It will replace the old single-seater from 1965. "In the first phase of construction, tree felling along the cable car's route and concrete foundation work has taken place," noted Svačina. Along with the cable car to Jáchymov, a new slope nearly three kilometers long will be created. The upper station of the cable car will be at the top of Klínovec. Skiers will then be able to easily access the northern slopes from the southern one. The capacity of the Jáchymov cable car will also be 2400 people per hour.
