Boží Dar (Karlovy Vary) - The lookout tower was reopened today after reconstruction on Klínovec near Boží Dar. Hundreds of people took advantage of the opportunity to see the surroundings from the top of the tower on the very first day. The city reconstructed one of the symbols of the Ore Mountains for approximately 15 million crowns. Of this, 85 percent was obtained by the city from the cross-border subsidy program Goal 3, said the mayor of Boží Dar, Jan Horník (STAN), at today's ceremonial opening. Full parking lots, like at the peak of the ski season, and the flow of people today marked the resumption of operations at the lookout tower. The event was favored by the weather; it was clear, and it was possible to see for dozens of kilometers. Only the strong gusty wind, which especially blew at the top of the tower, reminded that Klínovec is the highest mountain of the Ore Mountains. "The project also included the construction of a new path leading to Klínovec. At the same time, we managed to build a new road from another project, which also brought engineering networks, water, and sewage to Klínovec," Horník stated. Just a few years ago, the lookout tower had poor prospects for survival. It was in a devastated state, closed, and was gradually beginning to fall apart. Therefore, during its reconstruction, the stones from which it was built had to be dismantled, marked, and practically the entire lookout tower had to be rebuilt. For safety reasons, only a limited number of visitors, approximately 12 to 15, may access the 24-meter-high tower. A turnstile and a camera system inside the tower allow for regulation of their number. The lookout tower was first opened in 1884. Later, a restaurant was added to it. That is now closed and also in a devastated state. However, the city will likely need to obtain another grant for its reconstruction.
