Opava - The Opava city council had a study prepared to assess whether it is worth building a new swimming pool or renovating the existing one. The study, costing 270,000 crowns, will be completed at the turn of October and November. The city's spokesperson, Lada Dobrovolná, informed ČTK about this.
The construction of a new swimming pool has been discussed in Opava for several years. The project initiated by the former mayor Radim Křupala (ČSSD) was approved by the city council in 2017. The construction was estimated to cost 350 million crowns. However, the newly elected town leadership with mayor Tomáš Navrátil (ANO) is not decided. Nevertheless, either building a new pool or renovating the old one is one of their investment priorities.
"The study should set us on the right path for the project, compare both options, and provide clear answers to a number of questions that have not yet been addressed regarding the construction of the swimming pool," stated Navrátil.
According to him, the study will be prepared by the company Relaxsolution, which has experience in the construction of swimming pools and water parks. "They were involved, for example, in the creation of Prague's Aquapalace," he added.
The current Opava swimming pool is located almost in the city center, and some residents dislike its potential relocation to the outskirts. They fear it will be less accessible. Others, on the other hand, welcome the move from a busy road to a quieter area.
The first study for a new swimming pool was created years ago, suggesting the facility would have two floors, with water slides leading to the pool. The council later commissioned a revised study to reduce costs. According to the latest city plans, the building is to be a single-story facility, with one swimming pool measuring 25 meters long and comprising six lanes. The recreational pool, featuring water elements such as jets and a wild river, is also expected to be of the same size. The facility should include saunas, massage showers, and a buffet.
