Opava – The Opava city council will repair the terraces of the listed building of the Municipal Swimming Pool from 1931. The work, costing more than six million crowns, will begin this autumn and will be completed by the next bathing season. Lada Dobrovolná from the city's press department said this today to ČTK.

"Before the start of the next summer season, the above-ground terraces of the Municipal Swimming Pool building will undergo reconstruction. They are already in a state of emergency, the subsoil is completely crumbled, so they will receive a replacement of all layers down to the new pavement. The roofing elements will also be inspected and restored, and the railings will be newly painted," she stated.

All the work, financed from the city treasury, will cost 6.34 million crowns. "Work can begin this autumn depending on the weather and will continue until next spring; everything must be completed according to the contract with the construction company by mid-May 2022," Dobrovolná added.

The Opava Municipal Swimming Pool is a swimming facility located in the Opava Municipal Parks. The area includes an architecturally valued functionalist building from 1931. It was built according to the design of the Opava architect Otto Reichner. The main building and pools are listed as cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The swimming pool has been in operation every season since 1931, except for the year 1997 when the Opava region was affected by floods.
