Strašice have prepared the first projects for construction using "radar" funds

Strašice (Rokycansko) - The municipality of Strašice, near the proposed construction of the American radar, has quickly prepared the first four projects for EU subsidies, which will be co-financed by the Brdy Development Commission. The roads, water supply, and sewage system are expected to cost up to 90 million CZK. Jiří Hahner, the mayor of Strašice, stated that according to the government's decision, they could receive up to 69 million crowns from the commission. A condition for their allocation is the success of the projects in European, national, or regional programs.
    "None of the construction can be directly financed with the commission's money. We must always first obtain European subsidies, and then the government will cover part of it," he added. Larger municipalities quickly registered their most prepared projects.
    Strašice, with a population of 2,500, will apply in April to the Operational Program Environment for nearly 50 million CZK to build a sewage system and water supply in the lowest-lying part of Huť, afflicted by floods, where it is the only place lacking these facilities. About one-third of the residents live there. The municipality wants to start both constructions this year. The same program is expected to fund the insulation of the school. The construction, costing 20 million CZK, for which the municipality applied at the end of last year, is set to begin within three months.
    They wish to repair the former tank road at the barracks for 12 million crowns, for which they will apply to the European ROP program in March. The municipality has already spent four million on reconnecting one-third of the municipality to the new wastewater treatment plant. "We will want the money back," Hahner said.
    The former military municipality also plans to renovate the neglected six-hectare square for 12 million crowns. They want to repair the road to Hořovice for the same amount, connecting the municipality to the D5 motorway. "The region considers it one of its priorities," Hahner stated. The reconstruction of the garrison house at the barracks, which the municipality took over 2.5 years ago, is estimated to cost ten million. An army museum focused on Strašice and Podbrdsko, costing 19 million crowns, will be created there.
    The garrison house will feature a dance and theater hall. The first floor will have a lecture room and a library. It will connect with the command villa and a wooden hostel from the First Republic, which are also technical monuments.
    The municipality is primarily counting on the European ROP program. At the same time, the projects are included in the package of requests from Brdy municipalities around the radar. "The government commission initially promised us that the projects which would be financed from European and national subsidy programs would help us push through," the mayor said.
