Prague - Owners of new buildings will have to pay property tax. The Chamber of Deputies today definitively approved the government amendment to the property tax law, which abolishes the current exemption from paying taxes on new buildings. The amendment will now go to the Senate. If the upper chamber approves it, it will be sent to the president for signing. According to the Ministry of Finance, it was an unsystematic and discriminatory measure. For example, residents of new homes in satellite towns did not have to pay these taxes. Property owners who had their properties insulated will also lose their tax exemption. At the same time, the deputies approved an amendment from the budget committee. This amendment prevents municipalities from increasing the rate of this tax using a coefficient on selected agricultural land, such as arable land, gardens, vineyards, or orchards.
