Zlín – The budget for the planned renovation of the Pod Kaštany market in the center of Zlín is over 92 million crowns. The municipal spokesperson Tomáš Melzer stated this in a press release today. The project includes two phases, including the modification of Soudní Street from the area of the former courthouse to the point where the street leads to Míru Square.
The city hall aims to start construction work in May next year. However, the owners of two stalls at the market have challenged the decision of the regional office, which confirmed the issuance of the building permit.
"We have received information that the stall owners have filed a lawsuit against the decision of the regional office. I am convinced that the city of Zlín acted in accordance with the law when obtaining the building permit and contacted all participants in the proceedings as required by law. We have been in talks with the stall owners throughout the process, and the entire revitalization project has been repeatedly discussed and consulted with them, and their comments have been incorporated. I do not understand their actions aimed at questioning the city’s building permit for the revitalization of the market," said Deputy Mayor Pavel Brada (ANO). According to him, the city continues preparations despite the administrative lawsuit against the regional office.
At the new market, stallholders will have access to electrical outlets to sell goods that need to be kept in refrigerated boxes. New water connections will also be provided to the stalls, and restrooms will be installed in the market area, which have previously been lacking. "In line with today's trends, rainwater will not end up in the sewer, but will be absorbed into green areas. At the same time, we want to prioritize primary producers and growers at the market, thereby eliminating the resale from supermarkets," stated Mayor Jiří Korec (ANO).
The proposal anticipates more than a hundred sales places over more than 900 m² of sales space. With the renovation of the market, a drilled well will also be put into operation in the adjacent Svobody orchard.
