Brno - The Šelepka club with a restaurant, which has been operating in Brno's Královo Pole since 1969, is set for demolition in the coming days. The unsuitable building will be replaced with a new one, which, according to the architectural design, is intended to resemble a fallen log covered in moss. The new club with a restaurant, children's café, and pastry shop is expected to open this September or October, said the owner of MIG, Roman Šebela, to journalists today. The total investment amounts to approximately 100 million crowns.
"There will be a lot of glazing facing the park, and it will involve a lot of wood," described Šebela the appearance of the upcoming building. According to him, the new structure will be assembled like a building block, so its rough form should be visible as early as March and April. The internal layout will also change; the stage has so far separated the club from the restaurant. "The floor will be at one level, making it possible to enlarge the club at the expense of the restaurant and vice versa, depending on needs," said Šebela.
The owner plans that the new club will have a program at least four days a week. "In addition to concerts, there could be stand-up performances, talk shows, and even political debates," noted Šebela. An Oldies party will continue to be held once a week.
A new operator will take over the restaurant. "We have a favorite with whom we are communicating intensively. They are giving us various suggestions on how the restaurant should look. In any case, people will find a pub here with the offerings they are used to," said Šebela. The building will also have a second floor. The park, thanks to its play elements, is a popular destination for parents with children. "So there will be a pastry shop and children's café," said Šebela.
Outside, there will continue to be two patios. One next to the restaurant, which will allow glazing for the cooler spring or autumn months. The second will be on a gravel surface to blend more closely with the park.
The Brno club Šelepka became popular mainly thanks to Miloš Bernátek, who purchased it in 1989 with his friend Jiří Sedláček and actor Bolek Polívka. Actor Miroslav Donutil performed with his show at Šelepka, DJ Jindra Eliáš played music, and people flocked to his popular Oldies party. Bernátek passed away in 2014, and the club continues to operate under new owners.
