Olomouc - The reconstructed roof of the Olomouc City Hall could not withstand the downpour that hit the city this afternoon. Water leaked into the building, and firefighters were on the scene. In cooperation with the construction company responsible for the repairs, they helped secure protective tarps back onto the town hall roof. Partial restrictions on the operation of some departments of the city hall are expected on Monday, spokesperson for the city hall Radka Štědrá informed ČTK this evening.

"We expect that this primarily concerns the operation of the registry office. For this reason, we advise the public of potential limitations on the execution of regular administrative tasks,"
stated the city hall secretary Jan Večeř.

During Sunday afternoon and evening, employees from the Management Department and the Department of Protection of the City Hall actively contributed to removing the consequences caused by the rain. The exact damages and, consequently, possible restrictions on the operation of the city hall will be specified on Monday, added Štědrá.

Due to storms, firefighters intervened in several places in the Olomouc region. They recorded a total of 17 incidents. In the overwhelming majority, however, they were smaller water lagoons that receded very quickly, and it was not necessary to start pumping, said firefighters' spokesperson Zdeněk Hošák to ČTK this evening. Firefighters also intervened with fallen trees. In Mohelnice in the Šumperk region, a local restaurant was partially flooded due to a clogged sewer. Water from the fields and debris troubled residents in Toveř and Dolany; however, buildings were not flooded there and the water receded very quickly, Hošák added.
