Rakovník - The operation of the covered swimming pool in Rakovník will end on Tuesday; it will remain closed for nearly two years due to repairs. The city will invest approximately 160 million crowns into the reconstruction. During the summer, the city announced a tender for the contractor, which will likely be selected by the end of September. From next week, the pool will begin to be drained and cleared out. This was stated by the mayor of Rakovník, Pavel Jenšovský (ČSSD), to the journalists today.
Most of the technology, including the pool basin, will be removed during the repair work, and the height of the side walls will be reduced to three-quarters. Employees of the pool will be gradually laid off; one person will transition to the Maintenance of Municipal Communications and will also oversee the reconstruction of the pool.
The adjacent outdoor pool will also be out of operation next year. The city is tendering for a contract for the reconstruction of the indoor pool with an option for the repair of the outdoor pool. The city anticipates costs of around 180 million crowns but expects the competition to lower the price. The saved money is then intended for the outdoor pool. "The company would seamlessly transition to the outdoor one after completing the indoor pool," Jenšovský stated.
The pool repair will include a complete replacement of technologies, the construction of a so-called wild river, slides, and similar features. The comfort of visitors and services for them, including refreshment areas, will be improved.
The city will take out a loan of one hundred million crowns for the pool renovation, but it may not utilize the entire amount. It already has a budget reserve of 60 million crowns and will save more money this year. The city hall has also applied for grants from which it can obtain around 20 million crowns. The result of the grant proceedings will be revealed in the fall.
The Rakovník swimming facility is in poor technical condition. It is regularly inspected by a structural engineer who has allowed its operation only until September. The repair is expected to be completed in 2018. Rakovník's annual budget is approximately 300 million crowns.
