Proseč (Chrudim Region) - Proseč in the Chrudim Region is completing repairs to its community center after two years. The city received the building for free from the Sokol organization, which could not afford the repairs. The building from the 1920s will host balls, concerts, film screenings, theatrical and school performances, celebrations, and weddings. This was stated by Mayor Jan Macháček. "It should be (the community center) a cultural and social center for all activities in Proseč. The city obtained it as a gift after long negotiations. Not only here, but Sokol centers are transforming into cultural and social hubs," said the mayor.
The community center was established in the 1920s from a former factory. The organization wanted to build its facilities earlier, but plans were delayed by World War I. The organization did not have enough funds for a complete reconstruction of the building, which was in a dilapidated state, so it donated it to the city in 2014. The building from the last century no longer met the needs of modern sports facilities.
Women used to attend aerobics at the community center, there was table tennis, and films were screened in the hall. "We don’t regret it. The city provided us with space for exercising in the school's gym and a ping-pong room. For ten years, we will receive a grant of 35,000 crowns annually, and for 30 years, the city hall has committed to providing us with its sports facilities," said the organization's treasurer Luboš Mundil.
Repairs and equipment costing approximately ten million crowns were also funded by grants for insulation and for acquiring modern technologies for film screenings, which will cost about 800,000 crowns.
