Olomouc - Residential construction in the Olomouc region is significantly lagging behind last year's figures so far this year. A total of 280 apartments have started construction in the region, which is a 40 percent decrease compared to the previous year. Nationwide, the number of apartments started from January to the end of March has increased by 2.9 percent year-on-year, reaching 8,297 residential units. Six regions have recorded an increase in residential construction. This information comes from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

Most of the apartments whose construction began in the first quarter in the Olomouc region fell into the category of new construction. In this way, the construction of 211 apartments was initiated. In completed projects, the construction of 69 apartments began. Of the new construction, 150 apartments were designated for family homes and 61 for new apartment buildings.

In 2024, residential construction in the Olomouc region revived after a previous decline. In recent years, apartment construction has particularly revived in Olomouc, where several large residential projects are currently being prepared, built, or completed. Development companies are building apartments in the Slavonín district, and others have been created on the site of the former telecommunications company SPT Telecom on Tabulový vrch. The company Sochorova stavební has built more than 300 apartments on the site of the former barracks in the center of Olomouc.

The development company Link City Centrum NS has constructed over 200 apartments in the area of former malt houses and cold storage. The development group Redstone is gradually building the Šantovka Living complex with 12 apartment buildings near the city center.

More large residential projects are in the planning stage in Olomouc. For instance, the company Stafos-Real plans to develop a residential complex with 381 apartments in Olomouc-Nové Sady. Eight apartment buildings are set to be established on land that currently serves as arable land or is designated as other areas. The company Objekt Invest intends to build more than 2,000 apartments in the outskirts of Olomouc. The residential project Green City is designed to accommodate approximately 5,100 residents in this new urban district. It will also include 64 commercial units, which are expected to provide jobs for about 80 people.
