Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou - The construction department of the Brno Bishopric has completed the project documentation for an extensive renovation of the Church of St. Margaret in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou in the Třebíč region. Funding of approximately 100 million Czech crowns has been secured from the Integrated Operational Programme (IROP). According to the spokesperson for the bishopric, Martina Jandlová, the call for tenders for the contractor will be announced in the coming weeks. The renovation is expected to be completed in 2021.
The Jaroměřice parish has had a grant of 95 million crowns approved since January of last year. The head of the construction department of the Brno Bishopric, Aleš Taufar, has previously stated that the project will be challenging. The roof renovation will be crucial. Not only the wooden rafters are damaged, but also the dome itself. The structure connected to the roof, which supports a fresco of approximately 600 square meters, is also made of wood. Due to the roof renovation, part of the fresco will need to be removed, while the rest will need to be protected during the renovation to prevent water from leaking in.
The fresco above the main nave, which is over 20 meters long and 44 meters high including the lantern, was created by Karel František Tepper and celebrates St. Margaret, the patroness of the church. The church, whose construction was commissioned to Jakub Prandtauer, was consecrated in 1738, even though it was not fully completed. It is one of the first Baroque churches in Moravia.
