Prague - Prague plans to build a footbridge that will connect Vítkov Hill with Karlín. It will span over the railway tracks from Pernerova Street. The city council today approved a memorandum with a private developer who will provide the city with land for construction near their planned building. On the Karlín side, the bridge will be accessible with the help of an elevator, and the city estimates the cost of its construction to be 67.6 million crowns.
The Mayor's Deputy Adam Scheinherr (Prague Together) stated that the city company Technical Administration of Communications (TSK) will now prepare the bridge project. According to him, the construction could be completed within five years, taking into account the coordination with the construction of the apartment building and the need to build an elevator on the Karlín side and access path on Vítkov. The deputy added that the bridge will be barrier-free on both sides.
The structure will be located approximately at the level of the currently under-construction bridge connecting Karlín with Holešovice across Štvanice Island. It will thus be possible to walk from Žižkov across Vítkov and Karlín all the way to Holešovice. "A bonus for the city will also be the accessibility of the northern slope of Vítkov, which is currently used significantly less than its other parts, even though there are very valuable and attractive places here," states the approved document.
Prague also recently announced a tender with an estimated value of 98.2 million crowns excluding VAT for the first part of the planned modifications of Vítkov Hill. These will include a new surface and landscaping around the memorial, where a bistro with a public restroom is expected to be added, among other things. This is the first part of modifications that, according to the city's plans, will take several years.
