Prague - Underground garages for approximately 130 cars are likely to be built near the Na Františku Hospital in Prague 1. The plan was approved today by the representatives of the first district. The construction of the building is estimated to cost about 170 million crowns.

There is a lack of parking spaces around the hospital. Cars are parked on sidewalks and in other places where it is not allowed.
Some representatives criticized the plan. They pointed out that traffic, noise, and air pollution will increase. There were also concerns that it would only be a matter of time before the hospital is sold after the garages are built.
However, the assembly ultimately approved the plan by a large majority of votes. At the suggestion of the opposition Public Affairs with the support of the coalition ODS, they directly indicated how the parking spaces would be allocated. A total of 34 spaces will be reserved for the hospital, 54 spots will be for visitors and patients of the facility.
Another 34 spaces will be available for local residents at the price of a parking card in the paid parking zone on the street. The annual card currently costs 700 crowns. The remaining eight spots will be in the garages for disabled people.
It is still unclear when construction will begin. The city leadership would like to coordinate the construction with the renovation of Dvořákovo nábřeží, which is planned for next year. However, it is possible that the preparation for the construction of the underground parking lot will not be completed by then. For this year, the representatives allocated ten million crowns for the preparation.
The subsoil of the embankment consists of rubble from the demolition of Josefov and the Old Town a hundred years ago. The garages would be created by excavating fill. It has already been decided that access and exit will not be directly from the embankment, from which Prague 1 wants to create a relaxation zone.
