Prague - The Prague City Hall has announced a tender with an estimated value of 144.9 million crowns excluding VAT for the completion of the reconstruction of the Šlechtova restaurant. This information is based on data published in the public procurement bulletin. Three dining facilities will be created during the construction, and workers will repair the colonnade, gazebo, and the slope above the restaurant. The renovation of the monument began at the turn of 2017 and 2018, and work on the renovation of the main hall was completed in mid-2021.
Since the completion of the main hall, the city has been addressing the next phase of work, which will primarily consist of making the restaurant operational, requiring modifications to the interior spaces. The interior rooms and the building extension are still in a rough construction state.
Upon completion, the historic restaurant will feature a restaurant, a café, and a garden restaurant, in addition to the colonnade and gazebo, and a separate WC facility will be created. The slope above the building is to be stabilized. The delay in the completion of the reconstruction was criticized by the opposition at the last city council meeting.
The listed Šlechtova restaurant building was constructed in the 17th century as a baroque summer residence. The restaurant has been in place since the 19th century, and the building is named after Antonín Šlechta, who managed it until World War II. The building deteriorated since 1950 and was closed in the 1960s due to a state of emergency. The building was damaged by fire in 1978 and 1980, and in 2002 it was affected by flooding. The building has been listed as a monument since 1958.
