Prague - Prague is donating a bronze sculpture of writer Jaroslav Hašek to Lipnice nad Sázavou. The work, valued at more than one million crowns, was created by academic sculptor Josef Malejovský and is currently in the depository of the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague. In Lipnice, it will be placed on the way to the cemetery where the author of the famous novel about soldier Švejk is buried. The spokesperson for the Prague magistrate, Jiří Wolf, informed journalists about today's decision of the city council. The sculpture was created starting in 1983, with the bronze casting completed six years later. However, because a suitable location for the statue was not found, it ended up in the depository. The statue is expected to be unveiled in Lipnice in the spring. Architects Alexander Perikhanian and Aleš Burian, along with the writer's grandson Richard Hašek, are involved in the project preparation. Since the value of the sculpture does not exceed two million crowns, the transfer does not need to be confirmed by the councilors. Hašek (1883 to 1923) wrote the majority of his most famous work in Lipnice. He lived in the town from 1921.
