Prague - The representatives of Prague 6 oppose the construction of a sports and recreational complex in Tichá Šárka. The city district will now file objections against the construction, which the representatives approved today at their meeting. The private entrepreneur's project contradicts the adopted area study. The Šárecké údolí association is also against the construction.

"The adopted resolution clearly defined the position of the city district. We reject the plan to place the sports and recreational complex called Jeseter resort because we want to meet the requirements of the previously accepted area study," said the mayor of Prague 6, Jakub Stárek (ODS). According to him, residents of the city district and the local association are also filing objections against the project.

The construction of the Jeseter resort sports and recreational complex with two-story houses is planned on the site of the former swimming pool. The landowner is the company Great Parkland, owned by Russian businessman Alexej Zacharov, whose disputes with residents in Dolní Olešnice in the Trutnov region previously ended up in court.

Construction proceedings have now begun with the building department of Prague 6. If the office permits the construction, the town hall can respond with an appeal. "When filing objections, we will draw from some of the objections gathered and submitted by the Šárecké údolí association," said communication officer of the sixth city district, Kateřina Maršálová.

The project had previously received 14 positive assessments from various authorities both from the city hall and Prague 6. "The situation has changed since then. Among other things, in connection with Russian aggression in Ukraine," Stárek said. He therefore contacted Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates) by letter to inquire whether businessman Zacharov is on the sanctions list or whether he should be included.

The dilapidated area in Tichá Šárka has not served the public since around 2002. It was closed due to emergency conditions and unsatisfactory hygiene. Both the city hall and Prague 6 have sought to have the land transferred to the city’s ownership and return it to its original function. The former swimming pool in the middle of the nature reserve was then acquired in an auction by the company Great Parkland.
