Prague - Two traditional events focused on exploring architecture will take place at the turn of September and October. They are held, among other things, on the occasion of World Architecture Day, celebrated on the first Monday of October. The two-day event called Architecture Day will take place on the weekend before, specifically on October 5th and 6th under the slogan Discover Your City. The seventh edition of the Architecture Week festival will run from September 23rd to October 20th, this year dedicated to architectural heritage and contemporary architecture.
Its main program will take place at the Jiřský Monastery in Prague Castle, where more than twenty exhibitions will be prepared. It will present the architecture of nearly 30 Czech, Polish, and Slovak cities, as well as modern and historical architecture from 40 countries; the festival will depict all sites listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List (745 sites from 157 countries). There will also be lectures by Czech and foreign architects, conferences, architecture days of selected countries, city days, architecture walks, and other events.
A representative of UNESCO and experts on the protection of monuments and architectural heritage will participate in the conference on the Protection of Tangible Cultural Heritage within the European Union on October 3rd.
The more intimate Architecture Day will take place on October 5th and 6th. The program of its third edition will be held in 41 cities, including newcomers like Bystřice pod Hostýnem, Česká Lípa, Humpolec, Jaroměř, Jeseník, Mnichovo Hradiště, Otrokovice, Police nad Metují, and Sušice; additional programs will be held in Slovakia and London.
This year, the ranks of architects in the role of guides will include David Vávra, Vladimir 518, and Jaromír Švejdík. Highlights of the program include a walk through Prague's technical underground with Jan Šépka and a walk through the mecca of contemporary architecture in Litomyšl with former city architect Zdenka Vydrová.
The event Liberec - Prag Open 2013 will offer the opportunity to peek inside the studios and apartments of architects and local artists. A walk through the Pardubice Finland will highlight the local colony of Finnish houses from the 1950s, and interested participants will learn how architecture appears through the eyes of children in Černošice. The Architects' Day is organized by the civic association Kruh, which aims to facilitate dialogue about quality Czech and world architecture and architectural creation with the general public.
