Jihlava - The Gustav Mahler Park in Jihlava is complete. Today, a life-sized statue of conductor and composer Gustav Mahler was placed on a granite pedestal. The sculptor is Jan Koblasa. The statue is currently covered in protective film. It will be unveiled during the park's ceremonial opening on July 7, marking the 150th anniversary of Gustav Mahler's birth. Radek Tulis, a spokesperson for the city hall, said this today. The Gustav Mahler Park was created according to the design of architects Martin Laštovička and Vít Doležal. Mahler's statue is the central point of the park, which is located on the site of the former Jewish synagogue. "The park is designed as a relaxation zone with greenery, water features, and stone sculptures. The park and the artistic works installed here symbolize the work, but also the sources of inspiration for Gustav Mahler's creations, namely the landscape and nature of Vysočina," Tulis stated. The total cost of constructing the park reached approximately 33 million crowns, with six million for the artistic works. The statue's installation took place during the time when the city of Jihlava is celebrating the festival Music of Thousands - Mahler Jihlava 2010.
