Vernissage: August 1, 2014

Second Meeting
:
is the actual realization of objects, an island workshop. On the island, there will be a prepared area in front of the former monastery of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist, where space will be secured for the workshop, camping areas, basic hygiene, and a fire pit. Applicants will need to prepare for harsh conditions on the island: there will be a limited supply of drinking water, no showers or Wi-Fi (there probably won’t be electricity either), and everything will need to be secured independently. We will provide transportation from Davle to the island and back to the mainland, construction materials, and tools. All other equipment is left to the discretion of the applicants, but we assume they will bring quality footwear, enough clothing, swimsuits, head coverings, TENT AND SLEEPING BAG, insect repellent, and drawing materials! The workshop will conclude with a vernissage, where we expect greater interest from local residents and many tourists from Sázava due to the ongoing summer season.

What is the goal of the workshop:
The aim of the workshop should be small architectural realizations (objects) and artworks (sculptures, installations, etc.) that should develop the multifaceted legacy of the monastic order that operated here. Means of contemporary architecture and art should be used to visualize the lost world of the Western European civilizational and cultural sphere. This cultural and historical contribution of the Order of Saint Benedict will be collectively mapped by the upcoming major exhibition at Prague Castle - Open the Garden of Paradise. This temporary outdoor experimental exhibition will accompany this exhibition in Prague. The results of the workshop should primarily serve the visitors of the island, who can experience its atmosphere, contemplate, and learn something about the architecture of the former monastery of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in situ. For such a visit to the island, easy and independent boat access to the island must be ensured, installation of a map of the island with marked locations, information boards, and a small installation (e.g., a poster) directly in Davle, referring to the event on the island.

Who is the workshop for:
The workshop is primarily intended for architecture students, but due to the wide range of topics, all from related fields - sculptors, conceptual artists, etc. - are welcome. All those who can come up with and primarily realize their ideas in a short time are also welcome.

Students from FUA TUL will have this workshop recognized as a short assignment for the next study semester.

Students who did not attend the first meeting, please register further on the island's website!
