Prague – The reconstruction of the terrace by the C line subway station Budějovická will cost the capital city 34.2 million crowns excluding VAT. The work will be carried out by the company BDS Benešov. The repairs will start this April and will be completed no later than in 180 days. This was stated to reporters today by councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09). The area to be repaired measures 40,980 m² and has several owners including the city of Prague. The terrace is in very poor condition and was temporarily closed three years ago due to this issue.

"Budějovická has long been one of the unresolved problems and embarrassments. We expect that repairs will begin in April and that by autumn we will have completed the work and this embarrassment will be gone," said Chabr.

Seven companies applied for the competition, from which the city selected the winner. The city originally considered whether to demolish the terrace and build a new one, or to repair it. Ultimately, it decided on the latter option. The structure incorporates sales kiosks and also impacts the foundations of the Česká Spořitelna building and the Housing Culture House (DBK). "There were complicated legal negotiations and an agreement with the owners," said Chabr.

The terrace was built in 1977 and has never been repaired. Issues include, for example, water leaking into the structure. The emergency condition has been known since 2010. Additionally, legally, the structure did not belong to anyone. It wasn't until 2013 that officials from the city hall of Prague 4 decided that it belongs to the capital city. In recent years, several repair projects have been drawn up, but none have been realized.

The passage near the southern exit from the metro was closed by Prague on January 22, 2018. Three days earlier, the exit from the metro had been closed. The city then proposed the solution of demolishing the terrace. After nearly ten months, however, the office ultimately decided to support the terrace with props, which are still at the exit from the metro, and the southern exit from the metro was reopened. The closure of the passage was not well-received by DBK from the beginning. The city unsuccessfully negotiated with them about the possible sale of the terrace to the shopping center. The Prague 4 city hall also opposed the closure at that time.
