Hradec Králové - In the center of Hradec Králové, builders are renovating the interior of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Hradec Králové (FF UHK). The reconstruction started in September and so far has cost about 10 million crowns. The total costs for the reconstruction, including the extension of the building, amount to 199.5 million crowns. CTK was informed today by the spokesman of UHK Jakub Novák. The construction work is being managed by the company Metrostav. It is expected to be completed by April 2022, when the reconstruction of the adjacent historically protected university building of the Faculty of Education (PdF) should commence.

Currently, work is continuing on the remediation of the attic space through the gradual uncovering of the ceiling and the repair of roof trusses, cleaning of plaster, demolition of structures, chipping off lime plasters, dismantling various additional construction elements, sanitary facilities, and other tasks associated with clearing the premises. "The reconstruction is proceeding according to the construction schedule, and approximately five percent of the total budget, about ten million crowns, has been invested so far," Novák told CTK.

The university has received a grant of 169.5 million crowns from the Ministry of Education (MŠMT) for the project, which includes not only the reconstruction of the building but also the construction of an extension at the expense of a parking lot for academics.

During the construction work, all activities of FF UHK have been relocated to building E on Víta Nejedlého Street. Currently, about 1,200 students are enrolled in the university's Faculty of Philosophy. Due to government measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, most students are studying online.

Both university buildings in Svobody Square, the FF UHK building and the PdF UHK building, received a new facade including insulation in 2015. The reconstruction of the neighboring Faculty of Education will also mainly concern the interiors. The reconstruction of PdF UHK is expected to cost about 250 million crowns.

UHK was established in 2000 from the Pedagogical Institute. It offers studies across four faculties: the Faculty of Informatics and Management, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Philosophy, and the Faculty of Education. Approximately 6,500 people study at UHK, plus international students, although their number has significantly decreased this academic year due to the coronavirus.
