Opava - The Opava City Hall is preparing an area for the construction of family houses. Up to 140 houses are planned to be built in several phases on land near the Silesian Hospital. There are also plans to connect the new district with Olomoucká Street, which is the main road linking Opava with Olomouc. Roman Konečný, the spokesperson for the city, said this to ČTK. According to him, construction should begin within two years. "The city wants to support individual housing construction. We know how difficult it is to find suitable plots of land. Therefore, I am pleased that we have managed to acquire extensive land in this area and prepare a project so that construction can start here," said Opava's mayor Radim Křupal (Social Democratic Party). Of the planned 140 houses, 62 are to be built on the plots of a private owner, with the remainder on city property, he added.
According to the city's chief architect, Petr Stanjura, the project is divided into three phases to minimize the impact of construction on the surroundings. "In the first phase, 36 houses should be built, which will connect to Květinová and Leknínová streets. Twelve of these houses will stand on the land of a private investor, with whom we have agreed and are coordinating procedures," Stanjura stated. In the next phase, 54 houses will be built on purely city-owned land, and in the third phase, another 50 on private plots.
The project also addresses the complicated traffic situation. "A new street would connect these plots with Olomoucká Street, behind the area of the Psychiatric Hospital," Stanjura stated. The city has already purchased key plots of land from the region that are necessary for the construction of the new road.
