Olomouc – The Olomouc City Hall wants to buy the administrative part of the Namiro building near the city center for 398 million crowns, where it has leased space for about a third of its officials since 2013. The city council approved the purchase of this property on Monday, and it still needs to be approved by the city assembly. The assembly is expected to discuss the Namiro building in March. The city will prepare a payment schedule. CTK has obtained this information from the minutes of the city council meeting.

The Namiro building on Palackého Street was constructed by the company of the same name. In addition to offices, the property includes shops and apartments that have their own owners. The city leased about 6,400 m² of office space in the administrative part of the building for 20 years in 2013. It relocated officials who previously had offices in several historical buildings in the center of Olomouc. The city hall sold these buildings.

The city pays about 20 million crowns annually for the rental of office space in the Namiro building. "We supported the purchase of Namiro. It is better to own the property than to pay absurd rent," stated the ProOlomouc movement on social media, which is part of the city hall coalition.

In recent years, the city, according to ProOlomouc, has received two offers to buy the Namiro building, and the city hall has also unsuccessfully searched for other options for buildings for municipal officials. For example, it considered the building of the former post office branch at Horní náměstí, but the contemplated transaction ultimately fell through. The use of part of the Hanácká barracks is also being considered, but they are still owned by the state, and a feasibility study for their utilization has not yet been commissioned.

"From the comparison of the parameters of all available options, the offer to purchase the Namiro building for just under 400 million crowns is the most economically advantageous. Despite reservations about the property, from its infamous history, through complicated co-ownership to the fact that Namiro is far from a quality public administrative building, we supported the intention to purchase it. It is better to pay off one’s own property than to pay at least another 260 million for rent and end up with nothing," stated the ProOlomouc movement.
