OLOMOUC - By constructing new trolley poles in Pekařská and Denisova streets, the Olomouc city hall intends to resolve the deadlock caused by the disagreement of local homeowners regarding the suspension of tram wiring on their properties. Due to the residents' objections, the city hall cannot initiate the hundred-million reconstruction of the streets in the historic core of the city, which has been in preparation since 1999. This is reported today by the regional newspaper Olomoucký den (The Day).

However, the new poles for the traction lines cannot be placed just anywhere. In some locations, it is technically impossible. In such cases, in order to obtain a building permit, homeowners must have the trolley anchoring registered in the land register as an easement. However, most people refuse to do so. "Even if they agree to its placement for rental purposes, they do not want to change anything in the property registry. It will be up to the railway authority to determine whether to allow an exception without registration in the land register or to impose restrictions on the owner's rights," said deputy mayor Miroslav Petřík to the newspaper. This would mean that the placement of the suspensions on some buildings would be officially mandated.
Miroslav Dvořák from the Railway Authority in Olomouc does not rule out such a solution. "However, it would be an extreme solution. There should first be an agreement between the owner and the investor," Dvořák said.
The repair of both streets has been in preparation since 1999. In addition to the tram track on a suspended base, the streets will feature new flat granite paving with barrier-free sidewalks. At the same time, the water supply, sewage, and gas distribution will be reconstructed. "The construction work using new technologies will not affect the statics of the buildings," stated Václav Šnajdr from the Olomouc city hall.
If the city hall manages to obtain a building permit, the reconstruction will start in February next year and will be completed by the end of 2007.
