Nedvědice - While the guided tours of the Gothic castle Pernštejn will open for visitors for the last time this year over the weekend, work in the gardens will continue even after the end of the season. The construction company should not completely halt the work even during the winter. Zdeněk Škrabal, the castle curator, said this today to ČTK.
"There is extensive work happening in the garden over the entire area. Currently, walls are being built, structural work is underway, a hermitage is under construction, both large and small pools are being restored, and utility networks are being installed. Work will not completely stop even in winter, unless there are very severe frosts," stated the curator.
The work in the garden is being carried out by the company Garden Line, which won the tender. Representatives of the National Heritage Institute and the castle administration check the progress every week.
The Lordly Ornamental Garden at Pernštejn is an architectural complex of a medieval castle, first supplemented in the Baroque period and later in the transition from the 18th to the 19th century with a series of gardens. According to conservationists, it has no equivalent in the Czech Republic. With the help of European funds, the area will return to its peak form from 200 years ago, when it was among the fifteen most significant gardens in Moravia and Silesia.
According to curator Zdeněk Škrabal, the garden will be a "sampling ground" of various styles. "It is a very significant historical entity that has been missing here for some time," he said. He added that the garden will create a complex with the castle, similar to the past.
The inventory from 1806 provides insight into the appearance of the garden at the time of its greatest glory, capturing not only individual garden architectures and utility buildings but also their furnishings, the condition of fruit and exotic trees, and blooming plants.
The restoration of the Lordly Ornamental Garden began this January with tree felling and will last, including the restoration of historical objects, until September 2020. It should cost approximately 100 million crowns.
