Brno - The new director of the House of Art in Brno, starting in March, will be educator and art theory expert Terezie Petišková. The current director, Rostislav Koryčánek, did not defend his position in the competition, and the city hall will dismiss him at the end of December. Until March 1, the institution will be temporarily led by Deputy Director Jitka Pernesová, informed Pavel Žára, spokesperson for the Brno city hall.

Five candidates applied for the position of director of the House of Art, three of whom advanced to the second round. The city hall announced the competition so that the current director could defend himself against other candidates. However, the names of the applicants were not disclosed, which Koryčánek criticizes. "I think the city could have made the situation easier by approaching the whole matter transparently," Koryčánek told ČTK.
The current director stated that he respects the outcome of the competition. "I hope Terezie Petišková will be able to utilize the potential that has developed in the House of Art and which this institution undoubtedly has," he said about the new director, adding that he is still uncertain about his future.
Terezie Petišková teaches at the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design at the University of Ústí nad Labem, where she earned her doctorate. She also studied art science at Masaryk University. In Brno, she led the Gallery of Young Artists at the end of the 1990s. In addition to her teaching activities, she also works as an exhibition curator and participated in the professional evaluation of the art collection of the Military Historical Institute in Prague.
