Brno - The new headquarters of the Brno regional office of the labor office will be built by Imos Brno for nearly 150 million crowns. The Czech Labor Office signed a contract with them today. The building will rise near the courthouse close to the city center. Construction will take almost two years, said Jan Marek, the director of the regional labor office, to ČTK today. According to him, most of the financial resources are covered by grants from the European Union. More than ten companies competed for the contract in the tender. The construction was originally supposed to start last year. "However, we had to address a number of administrative deficiencies before signing the contract," Marek stated. The new headquarters is designed for 260 employees. Currently, officials are working in several locations in Brno, which is set to change. "We provide employment services for about 20,000 unemployed people in a facility on Křenová Street. The building is in poor technical condition and does not meet capacity," said Marek. According to him, the search for new premises in Brno has been a long-term issue, discussed since the late 1990s. The new headquarters will also include space for the Brno-venkov branch. The current facility on Křenová, according to Marek, is expected to be reconstructed in the future. "My vision is that a center for social benefits for all of Brno would be established here," he stated. Jan Marek has been leading the Brno branch of the labor office since the end of 2010, when he replaced the dismissed Jiří Uklein. The reason for the personnel change was the repeated incorrect submission of an application for the project of the new office building.
