Hrádek near Sušice - The State Railway Administration (SŽDC) has completed the renovation of the dispatch building in Hrádek near Sušice in the Klatovy region, the first since the building's completion 130 years ago. The station is the only one in the Plzeň region among the ten finalists in the competition for the most beautiful railway station in the Czech Republic. The winners will be announced on November 9 in the Senate. SŽDC has also completed the restoration of the roof, façade, doors, and windows of the station in Nezvěstice in southern Plzeň, said the management's spokeswoman Radka Pistoriusová to ČTK. This year, around 60 million crowns will be allocated for the renovation of seven dispatch buildings in the region.

Hrádek near Sušice lies on the regional line of Horažďovice suburb - Domažlice. The station is located near Sušice, which is an important tourist center of Šumava. The dispatch building, built in 1888, was erected during the construction of the so-called Czech-Moravian Transversal Railway. To this day, it has retained almost its original appearance, characteristic of all buildings on this railway. During the 130 years of operation, only necessary maintenance work has been carried out on the building.

The current renovation, costing nearly five million crowns and starting last September, is the first since the station's establishment. "The outdated and damaged roofs, frames, doors, and windows were replaced while preserving the original historical appearance of the building. The spaces for travelers now meet the requirements of the 21st century," the spokeswoman stated. The chimneys, gutters, plaster, and stone base have also been restored.

The reconstruction of the dispatch building in Nezvěstice, costing over five million crowns, which also preserved the historical appearance of the building, included the sanitation of the perimeter walls, replacement of windows and doors, repairs to the damaged framework, floors, cladding, ceiling, and the furnishings of the waiting room. A new barrier-free toilet has been installed.

This year, SŽDC will allocate 60 million crowns for the renovation of dispatch buildings in the Plzeň region. In addition to Hrádek and Nezvěstice, the projects include Železná Ruda-Alžbětín, Velké Hydčice and Nemilkov in the Klatovy region, and Staňkov and Poběžovice in the Domažlice region. Part of the funds will also be used for renovation projects planned for next year. In Klatovy, this will include Sušice and Horažďovice, while in Plzeň it will involve Plasy, Starý Plzenec, and Horní Bříza, as well as Plzeň-South suburb. The most anticipated and demanding will be the renovation of the dispatch building in Plzeň, which is expected to start in 2020.
