Kuřim - The leadership of Kuřim in the Brno region is planning the construction of a school for 540 children with two gymnasiums, an auditorium, and specialized classrooms. The school is set to be built in the Záhoří area, where extensive residential development is planned. The city has now announced an architectural competition for the design of the school, with the winner expected to be selected in the first quarter of next year. Total construction costs for the school are expected to exceed 750 million crowns, said the city's deputy mayor Petr Vodka (ODS) for ČTK.
"Total investment costs for the construction of the school are estimated at 750 million crowns excluding VAT. Financing will be a combination of own resources and grants. The value of the project documentation, which will be awarded after the architectural competition, is set at 50 million crowns excluding VAT. We are preparing to apply for grants from European and national programs," Vodka said. Záhoří is the largest development area in Kuřim, where housing for hundreds of families is planned to be built in the coming years.
The conditions of the competition were approved by the Kuřim city council at the beginning of July, and until autumn the city will be selecting participants to invite to submit proposals. In the first quarter of next year, the evaluation and selection of proposals is expected.
The school is intended to have ten classrooms for the first grade and eight classrooms for the second grade, an after-school club for 200 children, an auditorium for 80 people, a large gymnasium with seating for 400 people, a smaller gymnasium, two outdoor sports grounds, and an athletic track with six lanes. The new school kitchen should prepare 2200 meals per day and will also serve nearby schools and facilities.
The actual construction of the school could begin in 2030, with completion expected between 2032 and 2035, depending on how well the city manages to secure grants.
