Museum Kampa refuses to remove the advertisement, according to preservationists illegal

Prague - The Prague Museum Kampa is in a dispute with heritage conservators. The highly visible banner on the Sovovy mlýny featuring an advertisement for the Andy Warhol exhibition is, according to the director of the municipal heritage office, Jan Kněžínek, illegal. "It's being done without permission," he told ČTK. However, the gallery refuses to remove the several-meter-long advertisement.
    "It's not coming down," Meda Mládková, a patron and art collector whose foundation operates the institution, told ČTK today. She expressed to the conservators that she feels offended and "let them take it down themselves." However, she added that in that case she would "invite the television."
     The heritage department fundamentally does not allow banners with advertisements on the facades in the protected area, even if someone requests it - which did not happen anyway. "We are against it," emphasized Kněžínek. The only exception is when the promotion is attached to scaffolding of a building under repair.
    "We didn't know we had to apply for permission," Mládková stated, adding that in her opinion it is not an advertisement.
    The heritage department has already initiated administrative proceedings for the removal of the advertisement from the mills; they can also impose a fine.
    According to Mládková, similar advertisements for its events have been used by Museum Kampa before. "I am amazed. Prague should be glad to have such an exhibition," she added. According to her, a thousand people have already seen the Andy Warhol collection in just a few days.
    The city council also does not wish for the facades of buildings in the reserve to be covered with banners advertising. A new amendment to the regulations will come into effect in September, which will explicitly prohibit this, except for scaffolding.
    Mládková had a dispute with the conservators several years ago when the Sovovy mlýny were being reconstructed. A glass cube is placed in the stairwell tower, which the conservators criticized, but Mládková insisted on it.
