Prague – The Ministry of Culture has announced a selection process for the position of director of the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague. The long-time director of the state-funded institution, Helena Koenigsmarková, has decided to conclude her tenure at the museum this year. The ministry informs about the competition on its website. It is expected that the new director will assume office on November 1 of this year. The application deadline is Wednesday, May 24.

Helena Koenigsmarková is the last of the directors of the ministry's funded organizations who held her position for a long time without any competition for her role. She has been at the helm of the institution for over thirty years. Recently, the Czech Philharmonic announced a competition for the director of the Rudolfinum Gallery, a position previously held for a somewhat shorter period by art historian and curator Petr Nedoma.

Minister of Culture Martin Baxa highlighted the accomplishments of the outgoing director, including the establishment of a new depository, the restored historic building, and a new permanent exhibition. "A remarkable achievement was the agreement with Josef Koudelka, who after lengthy negotiations ultimately donated over 2000 photographs to our state, 90 percent of which are now in the collections of the UPM along with other documents of his life's work,” said the minister.
